Live Slideshow at Your Wedding: Guest Photos Live on Projector, Screen & TV

A live slideshow shows your guests' photos in real time on a projector, screen or TV: someone takes a picture at cocktail hour, and seconds later it plays in the hall. Here you will find everything you need — which equipment, which projector, how to connect it, what it costs and how to make sure the right photos end up on the wall.

What is a live slideshow at a wedding?

With a classic wedding slideshow you put photos together beforehand — childhood pictures, how you met, the proposal — and show them at a set point in the program. A live slideshow is the opposite: it shows what is happening right now. Guests take photos with their own phones, upload them via QR code, and the slideshow on the screen plays them automatically.

This has two effects: guests see themselves on the screen and take noticeably more photos. And at the end you have not only a slideshow but a complete gallery of all guest photos in original quality.

How it works: from phone to screen

  1. You create an event and get a QR code — for table cards, a stand or the invitation.
  2. Guests scan the code. The camera opens right in the browser, with no app download and no account.
  3. Every uploaded photo lands in your shared gallery.
  4. A laptop, smart TV or tablet opens the slideshow link in fullscreen and shows new photos automatically.

How to place the QR code with style is covered in our guide QR code at your wedding.

What you need: the equipment checklist

  • A playback device with an up-to-date browser: laptop, smart TV with browser, tablet or a streaming stick.
  • A projector with a screen, or a large TV.
  • The right connection between the two, usually an HDMI cable (don't forget an adapter for USB-C or Mac).
  • Stable internet on the playback device — the venue's Wi-Fi, with a phone hotspot as a backup.
  • Power and an extension lead for projector and laptop, plus a charger for the whole evening.

Software installation is unnecessary: the slideshow runs as a web page in the browser.

Projector or TV? Choosing for your venue

The most important question is the light in the room. A TV is bright enough for any time of day, but small. A projector makes the picture big enough for the whole hall — and shines in a room that can be darkened.

How bright should the projector be?

Brightness is measured in ANSI lumens. As a rule of thumb, around 3,000 lumens are enough for a darkened hall; with ambient light or a large screen, go clearly higher. Look for the “ANSI lumens” figure — some budget devices advertise “lux” or “LED lumens”, which cannot be compared.

How big should the screen be?

The screen should be easy to read from the back tables. In banquet halls, screens between two and four meters (about 6.5 to 13 feet) wide are common. More important than maximum size is that the picture hangs high — above the heads of the dancers, not behind them.

Rent or borrow a projector?

Ask your venue and your DJ first: many have a projector and screen on site and provide them at a small charge or free. Otherwise event technicians, electronics stores and rental platforms hire out projectors by the day — book early, because good devices go quickly on Saturdays in wedding season.

Connecting the projector: HDMI, Chromecast, AirPlay or smart TV

The slideshow is a web page. So any device that can show a browser in fullscreen on the display will do.

ConnectionHow it worksGood to know
HDMI cableLaptop connected by cable to projector or TVThe most reliable. Choose a cable that is long enough and bring an adapter for USB-C/Mac.
Smart TV browserOpen the slideshow link directly in the TV's browserNo laptop needed. The TV needs its own internet connection.
Chromecast / Google TVCast a Chrome tab from your laptop to the stickRuns over Wi-Fi — with a weak network, a cable is the better choice.
AirPlayMirror a Mac or iPad to an Apple TV or AirPlay-capable TVThe device should stay awake all evening.
Fire TV StickInstall a browser app on the stick, open the linkTest it at home beforehand.

Whichever you choose: test it once at the venue before the wedding, with exactly the device that will run in the evening.

Set up in 5 minutes

  1. Create your event with snaplounge — the live slideshow is included in every plan, the free one too.
  2. In event management, open the live slideshow settings and set speed, transition and photo selection.
  3. Copy the slideshow link and open it on the playback device.
  4. Press F to switch to fullscreen.
  5. Upload two or three photos of your own so the screen is not empty at the start.

The best settings

  • Speed: six to eight seconds per photo is a good value — enough time to enjoy each picture, and it keeps moving.
  • Transition: “Fade” feels calm and festive, “Slide” modern, “Zoom” dynamic for the party late in the evening.
  • Show QR Code: switch it on. Anyone who sees the slideshow can join in right away.
  • Show names: guests love seeing their name under their own photo.

Control: which photos appear on the screen?

The biggest question for many couples: what if an unsuitable photo shows up? There are two modes for that. “All Photos” shows every new picture automatically — ideal for relaxed celebrations. “Selected only” shows just the photos that you (or your best man and maid of honor) have approved in the gallery with one click.

A good middle path: “All Photos” during the day, then switch to “Selected only” late in the evening. From the Premium plan there are also AI filters that sort out unsuitable content before it is shown.

Privacy: what to clarify beforehand

Guests are visible on the screen — that counts as showing their picture in the hall. A short note on the invitation or at the QR stand (“Your photos appear live on the screen”) makes everything clear. If someone would prefer not to be shown, they tell you, and you select accordingly in “Selected only” mode.

snaplounge stores photos on servers in the EU. What matters legally for photos at company events is covered in our guide company party photos and the GDPR.

The perfect moment: when and where the slideshow runs

  • Cocktail hour: a TV at the entrance shows the first photos while you are still with the photographer.
  • Dinner: the screen plays quietly in the background and gives everyone something to talk about between courses.
  • Speech or program item: announce the slideshow — “Your photos appear live, start shooting!” — that gives the strongest boost.
  • Dance floor: a screen above or beside the dance floor, where everyone looks anyway.

Small tasks bring even more photos. You will find templates in the free photo challenge generator.

Cost: what a live slideshow really costs

At snaplounge the slideshow costs nothing extra: it is included in every plan, the free one too — together with the gallery of all guest photos. The free plan covers 15 guests and 50 photos, which is plenty for trying it out; for a wedding you will usually want a larger plan. Then there is the equipment: many venues and DJs provide projector and screen anyway; otherwise a day's rental comes on top. For comparison: a rented photo booth delivers photos from one station, while a live slideshow collects pictures from all guests. An honest comparison is in photo booth vs. photo app.

Common problems and quick fixes
